Stats and Map of OOM

So I have completed 5 levels in just over a month, that is 34 days to be exact.
This is 6.8 days per level on average. So Im a quarter of the way through and If I keep up at this rate then I will complete the challenge by December 4th,  6.5 months ahead of schedule. :D

I have noticed that the blog views at each level seem to be increasing naturally through word of mouth and the amount of buyers who have shown interest has also grown with each level.

£31 has gone to good causes so far.

I have made a map to keep track of where the objects live. As you can see they are becoming quite spread out.

LEVEL 5 - Anaglyph Cornwall (via Moscow)

Level 5 Budget £16

Quite a lot has happened since Level 4. I have just got back from a 10 day holiday in Cornwall and before this I was lucky enough to be invited to do a 3D HOLOTRONICA performance at Midsummer Nights Dream Party outside Moscow in Russia. This was an amazing event as the audience were all dressed up in a forest fantasy theme and it was held in a forest by a lake in the grounds of an impressive mansion.

I flew out with 4000 pairs of polorised 3D glasses.

And a monkey mask...

I was very well looked after in Russia.
This is Marina who was artist liason.

This is Tatiana who booked me for the show...

The show went down really well, My new show is unique because I have invented a new type of screen that allows for large scale holographic effects 'Hologauze'.
After my set they had a full blown UFO launch from an island in the middle of the lake and LED illuminated aliens launched off the island and came out on rafts towards the shore to a hypnotic soundscape blasting out with alien babbling drones. Trees all around the lake were video mapped and spotlights scanned the misty water's surface. I thought the whole spectacle was amazing.

You can check out the UFO launch video here...
https://vimeo.com/70660207

You have to really come to one of my shows to experience it in 3D.

I tried do something for level 5 in Moscow but  I didnt have any time to go shopping with my 807 Rubels (£16).

I think I spotted Edward Snowden in TGI Fridays in Moscow airport on the way home???

Im hoping that OOM will help me fund parts of the Holotronica project later on. I have been working on Holotronica for 5 Years now and will be releasing shortly. You will be able to pre-order the 3D Blu-Ray album through the website soon. www.holotronica.com

Cornwall

We arrived in St Just, Cornwall last thursday week. Staying with Jamie and Kate, and their twins Mari and Finch. Every year St Just have a street carnival called LAFROWDER. This was a wonderful event and I took some 3D photos with my Fuji W3 digital 3D camera. You will need to dig out your old anaglyph glasses (Red/Blue) for this level. You can see the 3D pics here...

After this I pitched an idea to Jamie..

The Pitch

I asked him if he had an old picture frame and I would get a print made of the kids holding the frame. I will then copy and paste the image in the frame so we get a repeating pattern that fits with the orders of magnitude theme. I will take the picture in 3D and make the image in anaglyph format.

Jamie had already expressed interest in the project and wanted to be a part of it. He agrees to the idea and I order two pairs of anaglyph glasses that arrive next day.

I took a pic of the Mari and Finch wearing the 3D glasses in the garden and created an anaglyph version on my laptop. I then created the tunnel effect in photoshop by copy and paste. Finch in particular was fascinated by the process and they both seemed to really like the idea.

I shot down to Penzance and found a place to do a Giclee print.

Cornwall Colour Bureau did a print within 2.5 hours and they told me these prints are guaranteed to last 200 years which I found impressive.

while I waited for this I went down the coast and discovered Tremenheere Sculpture Park. Jamie had already told me about this place and the work of James Turrel.
I found myself inside a white egg shaped chamber with a perfect eclipse hole in its roof. it was a perfect sunny day and the sky looked amazing through the aperture. I had the sculpture to myself and it was a zen experience. I took a 3D photo but couldnt get it all in frame.

maybe this could be inspiration for a future level? who knows...

I picked up the print and mounted it in the gilt frame.

Next morning I signed the back

Jamie pays £32 for the picture. Thankyou!

Jamie hangs the picture on the wall...

They all seem to love the picture, it's nice as it's personal to them. I may do this in future levels where I can incorporate buyers' faces into the artworks. Will see.

Thanks for a great week guys, Cornwall was fantastic and I'm so glad we managed to complete level 5.

Yesterday on the way home to Bristol, my girlfriend Lisa took us to a Monkey Sanctuary near Looe as she volunteered there 20 years ago. It was closed on Fridays but we went in anyway to see who was around. Luckily she met Rachel who remembered her and she gave us a special tour around the place. There are many monkeys here that have been rescued from the pet trade and have been rehabilitated. Its great to see them in such great surroundings in a beautiful place looking out to sea.

I feel like I'm in Brazil, is this really the UK?

I felt touched by the place and specially by Joey who enchanted us and who has had a particularly difficult early life.  You can watch the story of Joey here...

we wanted to do something to help as they need more support to keep running and expanding as they have reached capacity.  All I can do is tell people about the sanctuary on this blog who knows maybe OOM can help more on another level?
We gave a modest donation to the Sanctuary by coincidence in line with the level 5 budget, please take a look at the website and I recommend a visit if you're down that way.

LEVEL 4 - Out The Door!

I put the vase up for sale just as I went to bed. When I woke I checked my email and  I sold the vase straight away before getting up.

Nathan from Bristol came over this evening to pick it up.

I sign the vase...

Nathan Pays £16
Thanks!

I tell him he is now entitled to a VIP ticket for the party and exhibition I am going to hold If I complete the challenge. I ask him to keep the vase for a year just in case.

Nathan leaves happy with his purchase,  I am happy because I have advanced to the next level.
This project is win win so far and Im loving it.

Nathan sends some pics of the vase in his home.

He says his wife isnt thst over the moon with his purchase and he may one day put it in storage.
I hope she grows to like it and that good things come to them.

I wonder how long his wife will stand it for?

Level 5 now. Thats enough ceramics, Im going to do something different.

( I heard on the interweb grapespline that Nathans wife thinks its hideous. Thats cool I thought they were hideous too, then I broke one and sold it to her husband for 3 x times the price I paid for them. :) All good fun! )

LEVEL 4 - Credit Cruncher

Level 4, Budget £8

I took a walk down Gloucester Rd and thought I have a look in Credit Cruncher. Its not a Charity shop but a great place for cheap stuff. I had in mind to try and do something else from a vase as I could feel a need to have something new at each level.

The shop is closing down on 27th July and is selling off its stock.

I had a look around, theres lots of stuff, strange plastic buddhas and skull lights,Pixie statues and goblin candle holders. You know the type of thing,  but these shops are great for DIY and cleaning stuff I suppose.

Oh dear, two pastel blue beach design vases with gold trim....

hideous.

At least they are larger than the last ones I suppose, so would be a nice progression.

£3.50 for a new vase? I mean thats great it fits in my budget but how can vases be made for such a cheap price. I wonder about who has made these and in what conditions and in what country.

The nice guy behind the counter likes the idea of my project and is happy to have his pic taken.
He also gives me 25% discount as they are closing down. Its a shame when any shop closes on Gloucester Rd as I feel the locals want to keep it the biggest and best  independent shopping street in the UK. I do hope a supermarket doesn't take its place, there are too many already.

I have to say Im really looking forward to getting the hammer to one of these pieces of crap!

I buy a can of orange spray paint with the extra cash.
Orange is the colour of the 1970s when I was growing up. Lots of household items seemed to be this colour or at least the plastic handles on them were.

Sorry for doing another vase but remember I had 6 or more buyers for the black vase and a good motto in life is...

"If it aint broke, dont fix it."

OOPS!

I stuck it all together again.

Im starting to think ahead and next time I'll do something different, things are going to get more and more interesting I feel. Im excited now.

LEVEL 3 - Complete!

I was contacted by Nina and she told me she wanted the vase and that her husband Bruce would be in Bristol picking up a synth he bought near to where I live.

Bruce AKA 'Alucidnation' came round today and picked up the vase.

£8 you legend!

(I placed an empty picture frame behind him for the pic. The reason for this will become apparent later on in the challenge)

I had 5 people offering to buy the vase, (its an interesting concept, destroying something and making it more valuable) one person said that I sold it too cheaply and would of given me more. I suppose I did sell it cheap but that's the name of the game innit. The project is throwing up some interesting questions about the value of creative works. Maybe some people wouldn't call this art. Im sure some people who are reading this are turning up their noses. Some people however will be on my wavelength and totally get it and are excited by what Im doing and what is coming next. To those people I salute you and I would love you to be involved. I need your help to make this happen..

Im interested in the process and I have started to realise that  the project as a whole is an artwork and everyone who is buying something is in fact crowd funding it and becoming a part of it.
Please feel free to leave comments of what you think of the idea and if you have any suggestions on how to spend money for the next level.

one cool thing that is happening is that people are offering to buy the next levels without knowing what it is. Im also letting the project get known by word of mouth. Im seeing that it is growing naturally for each level and Im not advertising it only linking on my personal facebook page so far.

All the money so far has gone to charity via Marie Curie charity shop. :) (not much so far I know but its all good)

I just got a pic from Bruce, Nina is very happy with her new vase and sent a pic.

Thanks guys,

Welcome to the O.O.M club!

now what the hell am I going to do with  £8 ?

LEVEL 3 - Destroy & Enhance

I made another trip to the same shop with my £4 in hand.

There were a pair of black vases larger than the previous ones and they cost £2 each.
Perfect!

I went to the counter and the nice young lady announced that it was her first day and she hadnt used the till before.
As if by magic the Master appeared to help her. I explained my project and said I needed a pic. The master said she didnt want her picture taken, I respected her wishes and I took a pic of the volunteer instead. As I left the I heard the master saying that that was unfortunate and not a good example for her first sale. I think  I got them both a little flustered. I made a quick exit saying "Sorry" "Thankyou"

I might try another charity shop next time before they start getting fed up with me.

At home I scrawled 'Orders of Magnitude' around one of the vases. I then destroyed it with a hammer. The vase exploded everywhere. Lots of pieces many too small to work with...

Im glad i wrote all over it because it helped piece it together again.

When I finished I decided to spray the whole thing black. it looks a lot better.

Im really happy with this piece, I want to keep it but I must sell it for £8
